Too wet to walk comfortably I tried anyway to hide my waddle as the elevator doors opened. Nobody seemed to notice, the only comment a man asking which floor I wanted.
As I told him I turned to face the door and heard the plastic keeping my skirt dry crinkle. I froze, but again nobody seemed to notice.
The door opened and almost everybody got out. Must all live together. Just the man by the buttons was in there with me, and at the next stop he stepped through the open door too.
As the doors closed he turned, looked at me, spoke for the second time. “You know, you can get paper backed diapers now. Might be quieter.”
